courses for attaining under 16.5m skipper certificate

 

Once you have become an experienced fisher you then have the opportunity to progress towards a Seafish under 16.5m Skippers Ticket. This is a voluntary qualification introduced by Seafish to improve safety in this sector of the fleet.

To obtain this certificate the following courses need to be completed which we offer at various locations throughout the year.

Skippers Certificate for Under 16.5m Vessels up to 20 miles:

GMDSS Short Range Certificate course;
Basic Health and Safety course;
Basic Sea Survival course;
Basic Fire Fighting and Prevention course;
Basic First Aid course;
Safety Awareness course;
2 day Bridge Watchkeeping course
2 day Engineering Course; and
1 day Stability Awareness for Experienced Fishermen course (intended for experienced fishers on any size of vessel - precursor to attending the Advanced Stability Awareness course unless you have completed the Intermediate Stability Awareness course)
Advanced  Stability Awareness  course.

Fishermen who complete the following will receive a Skippers Certificate for Under 16.5m Vessels beyond 20 miles:

 GMDSS Short Range Certificate course;
 Basic Health and Safety course;
Basic Sea Survival course;
Basic Fire Fighting and Prevention course;
Basic First Aid course;
Safety Awareness course;
5 day Seafish Bridge Watchkeeping course'
Engineering Course (MCA AEC1 35 Hour Advanced Engine Course); and
Stability Awareness for Experienced Fishers course (intended for experienced fishers on any size of vessel - precursor to attending the Advanced Stability Awareness course unless you have completed the Intermediate Stability Awareness course)
Advanced  Stability Awareness  course.
